![]() 1-2 shots while an enemy approaches is not much stamina but can but a decent dent in a weaker target's hp preventing hit trades if your swing lands first. I never had any issue with feathers as 90% of the time I used standard arrows as the goal was not to depend soley on the bow but rather use it to wear down enemies while I have the range advantage and force them to come to me on my terms. Though I would swap to my club/mace when the enemies got close for smaller foes, I never tried melee on trolls, lox and fuling bezerkers because they would be close to one shotting me. However it was not my choice for inside structures like the brual chambers, cyrpts, the new caves, etc do to short range. I used bows as the initiation atleast in every fight where I was the one starting it.Įvery troll picked hunted, every lox hunted, every village raided, every patrol killed, etc. A tree valley farm is all you need (the logs fall in on themselves and smash themselves up as you go) to get all the wood you need for wood arrows, and enough feathers for the rare occasions where more advanced arrows are actually warranted.Ĥ00h in, have not played in a bit, staying away until the new biome drops so I am interested in doing a full playthrough from start to finish. The bow is almost OP - that's why no boss is weak vs pierce. Any get close and it's back to sword&board. Plains it is bow vs growths (draugr fang + wood arrow + sneak 3x will 1-shot), bow vs fulings (if there's just a few, draugr fang + wood arrow is plenty - will 1-shot a no-star after poison with sneak, vs a village I use obsidian - will 1-shot a no-start instantly with sneak). Moder gets arrows in the sky and sword on the ground. Mountains it is bow vs drake, iron/silver sword vs wolf. Bad for situational awareness to run in though, let them come to you one by one. Can pull out the buckler + sword whenever things get close before the bow kills them. Then it's iron sledge vs blobs and anything behind a muddy scrap wall, bow for everything else. And wooden arrows, too, no need for feathers except for 100 fire arrows vs Elder.īow in the swamp is KING vs ALL until you get through your first couple of crypts, grab a draugr elite trophy, and make an iron sledge. I break out the bronze buckler and bronze sword for skellies in crypts where the bow is less effective, but other than that it's bows all the way. ![]() When you don't have the hp or stamina to survive a group engagement (basically meadows + black forest) bow for everything is better. I run the vaaaaaast majority of the game almost exclusively bows. I hope they add some mobs tha require bow like drakes, in the mistlands update, as they have a new bow also coming. Once I got to swamp, only got iron for pickaxe and went to mountains to get silver with stagbreaker. Also early game tombs were quite hard with nonupgraded leather set. Save the good arrows for the really hard fights. Even if you are already at endgame, if your bow skill is low just level it up using regular wood arrows. Leveling bows skill and making sure you have the best bow available and upgraded as top priority will be enough. Plains got a bit tricky with fuling villages and those hordes and there was a lot of kiting and pulling a couple of them at a time. Regular arrows are really cheap (just 8 wood) and good enough in almost all cases. I did this run without using a shield and once in the mountains I swapped to unarmed with flesh rippers and never used heavy armor. ![]() no need for farming feathers and wood for arrows The last one was full melee (except killing smol drakes on mountain for freeze gland) and the game progressed much smoother than previous runs. For more help on the game, be sure to check out our detailed Valheim wiki guides.I have about 300h in and done about 5 playthroughs.
